Summary of River/Flood Update from Col O’Hara


This is a summary of this morning's press conference at Lock and Dam 27, where Col O'Hara provided an update on the River and Flood in the St. Louis District.

Due to flash flooding on the Mauvaise Terre Creek, a tributary of the IL River, the Scott County Levee was overtopped last Sunday. Our Engineers will continue working with partners and local officials. -Col. O

River Conditions: Much of the MO River is hovering at flood stage or below.We expect the MO River to fall and then rise slightly due to releases. We will see continual rise due to releases until the end of June. -Col. O

With recent rains, we expect to see a slight increase in the Upper Miss followed by a harder fall, cresting through the St. Louis region over the next couple of days with no issues expected. -Col. O

Kaskaskia Lock & Dam is still closed due to high water. Without additional rainfall, Carlyle Lake is projected to crest Thursday at 453.5 ft., 8.5 feet above the normal summer rule curve. -Col. O

Only minor flooding is expected in St. Louis District area. –Col. O

We are still in the recovery phase at Wappapello Lake following the overflow of the Spillway on May 2. We expect all of the campgrounds to be open by 4th of July. -Col. O

Public Safety remains our top priority; Corps will continue to track the conditions and will continue to evaluate the impacts of the full-range of forecasts provided by the National Weather Service. - Col. O
